Happy Halloween!

Did you miss our October dinner event? We apologize for the last minute cancellation by Red Robinson, who had something unforeseen come up that made it so he could not attend on that evening. He expressed sincere regrets and said he would like to try again next year. We will have to wait and see if something can be worked out to make that happen.

If you did make it out to the event, you will have not have been disappointed as we were especially grateful to have Rnold Smith (pronounced as ‘Arnold’) be available and generous to fill-in at such short notice. Rnold was entertaining, starting off with a quite good Elvis rendition, and then giving us a great lesson on “How to achieve better marketing results without spending more“. I know for some this may not have sounded so exciting, but it was as Rnold gave a great presentation with a lot of insightful and compelling information that can be used not just for your business, but for an employment situation and even in one’s personal life. Highly recommend, if you get the chance to attend one of Rnold’s presentations, or seminars, you should do so as you won’t be disappointed.

Now, it’s two months to Christmas and 2018! So little time, so much partying to do!

After you’ve done your ‘trick or treating’ and eaten too many candies, you will want to come out to our November 8th dinner event celebrating Finland’s 100th anniversary. Our special guest, Aila Karpio, Honorary Vice-Consul for Finland in Vancouver, will be giving us all a presentation on Finland’s first 100 years.

Don’t forget, we can never forget, November 11th, take some time to remember our fallen soldiers!

Next up, you won’t want to miss the Fabulous Annual Christmas Party on Saturday December 2nd! Warm up with glögg and the Runeberg Chorus presenting Christmas carols, followed by Kate’s Scandinavian Christmas smorgasbord (including two necessary herring stations). Can there be more? Yes, of course there will be music and dancing with Richard Tyce and the S-Bahn Band! Always great, always entertaining! And in-between there somewhere make room for desserts, tea and coffee! Oh yeah, almost forgot, everyone gets a drink ticket included with their admission.

Then it’s Christmas! Santa Claus is coming to town…

Boxing Day, shop, shop ‘til you drop! I guess that applies to before Christmas too… there’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday! Too much commercialism, you say? Yeah, maybe just relax and enjoy some time with family and friends, that sounds good!

Register for our events before you forget, go to www.sbc-bc.ca and sign up, maybe sign up a guest or two, or more, to join you!

Now, last month I neglected to announce and welcome our new member, Mogens Gade, to the Club. Mogens has attended many of our events and finally decided to join, so please say ‘hi’ and welcome him next time you see him.

Also, last but not least, I would like to thank, on behalf of the Executive Board, fellow Board member Anders Nordin for his service leading our Speaker Committee over the past two to three years. Anders decided recently to step aside from this committee, while still remaining an active member of the board (thankfully!). Anders brought stability, planning and success to the team bringing you all the great speakers we have had, and will continue to have. The committee will now be headed by Henrik Laursen, who has served very actively on the committee over the past two to three years as well. Thank you, Anders, and continued success, Henrik!

Looking forward to seeing you all soon, stay safe!

Anders Nurmi

    UBC Voyage

In April, in addition to our regular speaker, we were given a special presentation by Torbjørn Reitan Fyrvik who told us about the UBC Voyage Project. The goal of the project is to design and build a fully autonomous research vessel which will be tested in the Atlantic Ocean. The team is currently working on the project but they are looking for assistance. Click the link below to learn about the project, its status and how you can help make it happen!
