President's Message

September 26, 2019

This has been a challenging year for us with a few of our dinners being cancelled due to weather and low registration. We need to turn this around and start getting the club rolling again. Our next dinner will be our social event which had been scheduled for September but was cancelled. Our October dinner will be an opportunity to share ideas and plan for future dinner events. Bring your ideas and suggestions. If you know of an interesting speaker, business or organization, we want to know!

Our speakers committee is working hard to get interesting and dynamic speakers for our dinner events. If you know of speaker with a topic that might be of interest to our members and guests, let us know at This email address is being protected from spambots. I know you are all looking forward to another great dinner which will be catered by Peter Praegel I look forward to joining you all again in October.

See you soon!

P.S.: As a last note, our board member and trouble-maker, Henrik sent this report about he and Susan hosting a neighborhood block party and their carousing with unsavory characters (pictures below):

Susan and I arranged and hosted our annual Cul-de-sac
bbq-get-together.
I had requested for the RCMP to be there, with all the
whistles n other noises. WAS a superb hit with the kids.
I also got a chance to sit in the front.
Way to many items, to NOT touch.
4 RCMP Officers joined us (2 vehicles). Consumed a
lot of our food...
As the area Block Watch Captain, was great to have such
support. We are apparently amongst the lowest crime rate
areas in the Lower Mainland.
I am looking after 11+ houses = good exercise for walkies....
Has been a busy summer with a lot of visits with clients and
customers from various parts of the world, incl. annual B.C.
Wood Global Buyers Mission at Whistler.
Attached is a photo with us and C.L. Grimm (yes, family
relation to a story teller of certain fame..)

In April, in addition to our regular speaker, we were given a special presentation by Torbjørn Reitan Fyrvik who told us about the UBC Voyage Project. The goal of the project is to design and build a fully autonomous research vessel which will be tested in the Atlantic Ocean. The team is currently working on the project but they are looking for assistance. Click the link below to learn about the project, its status and how you can help make it happen!
